Chicago Spring Break Planning Guide

by Sr. Editor on March 31, 2008

After a long, hard winter, you’re probably like many other Chicago residents – you’re ready to get out and kick up your heels a bit. Fortunately, there are some excellent ways to do so right in Chicago and there are plenty of other destinations within fairly easy reach that are worth exploring.

Some of the best places to go on Spring Break will depend on if you’re looking for college fun, family fun or a romantic escape. Some of the top spots overlap, but not all do.

College Students

College students have their share of places to go during their annual end of winter break. If getting away from it all is important, consider such things as Chicago rentals to take in some downtown action, the beaches of Florida, the sights of California, Spring Break in the Rockies or even a trek to the American Southwest or Mexico. The options for extreme college fun abound from one end of the country to the other and beyond.

Families

Families are not likely to want to get in on the college Spring Break action. Fortunately, there are some excellent places where mom, dad and the kids can all enjoy themselves. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking about what type of Spring Break vacation you might want to take this year:

Warm Weather Amusement Parks

Outdoor Vacations

Beaches

Historic hopping

Couples

Couples may want to visit college Spring Break destinations, but not always. Sometimes a more intimate romantic getaway is called for. Ideas for more romance include: the Pocono Mountains, this resort area is perfect no matter the season; springtime in the Rockies, Colorado is incredibly romantic when spring is in the air; exotic destinations, Paris, Rome and the Caribbean can all prove ideal; honeymoon suite Chicago rentals, no one says you have to leave the city to enjoy romance; Mackinac Island, this beautiful destination isn’t too far away.

The best places to enjoy Spring Break will depend a lot on your own style and tastes. You’ll find the options are excellent no matter your preference. Staying home and taking in sights from your Chicago apartment may be a great idea as well. Plenty of natives miss out on some of the city’s best attractions.
