The time for cutting loose, kicking up your heels and having some serious fun is almost here. Spring Break 2008 is just around the corner.
But, are you ready?
Tips to get ready for Spring Break 2008
If you need to prepare for this big event, you’ll find there are some excellent things you can do to prepare financially and physically for a week or two at the beach. Those living in apartments in Chicago might even be in a better position than many others. To get ready, try following these tips:
Cut corners financially – If you really want to make Spring Break dreams come true, you’re going to have cash. The earlier you employ money savings tips, the better. Some of the best ways to save cash for college Spring Break trips include: eating in, cutting down on entertainment expenses, picking up a short-term part time job and even making a concerted effort to save money on other bills, such as credit cards, utilities and so on. If you drink, smoke or eat a ton of junk food, just say no. Put the money saved in a tin to help fund Spring Break excesses.
Get in shape – No one wants to hit the beach when they’re out of shape and doughy. This is where living in Chicago apartments can come in handy. If your complex has an exercise room, use it. The earlier you start toning up, the better. Every little bit will help though. Also, consider eating a healthy, lower-cal diet if extra pounds are problem.
Get a little color. No one wants to fry themselves in the sun, but really now, many Chicagoans are a little pale. Before heading to Florida or elsewhere, try visiting a tanning salon for a bit of a color tune up.
Make travel plans in advance. The earlier you make your travel plans, the less the expense should be. Take the time to carefully map out your trip, book flights and/or rooms and shop around for the best deals. If you intend to stay in some of Spring Break’s most noted destinations, early booking is vital. Unless you have rooms secured in Daytona, for example, you might find yourself having to sleep in your car!
Getting ready for Spring Break 2008 requires some effort. If you want to have money to spend, a great place to stay and a body that doesn’t draw snickers, start working now. You’ll be glad you did!
Spring Break Planning Timeline
For the organizationally-challenged, here’s a workable timeline to make sure you’re ready with a plan in hand when spring break comes around.
3 Months Prior…
- Set a Budget. Decide what you can reasonably spend and stick to it. There are great all inclusive packages available to a variety of locations. Don’t forget to factor in costs like applying for a passport and getting vaccines if you’re traveling out of the country.
- Do your research and choose a destination. Who are you traveling with? How far do you guys want to go and would you prefer to soak up the sun or ski the slopes during your time off from school or work?
- Request vacation time from work. For students working part-time and full-time professionals getting the particular days off you want may get harder and harder as time goes by. So put in your requests early.
1 Month Away…
- Make rental car reservations if you’re going to need transportation to get you around. Get your car checked out and serviced if you’re driving.
- Inventory what you have and what you need to buy for your trip (i.e. new swimsuit and sunblock, or gloves and hiking boots)
- Purchase travelers checks and notify your credit card company to expect charges from wherever you’re traveling.
Week before departure…
- Cut back on your grocery list and try to use the things in your fridge that will go bad while you’re gone.
- Check the forecasts. Even though you can’t manipulate the weather to be the best when you arrive, this will help you to be prepared.
- Tie up loose ends. Do you need a neighbor to get your newspapers the week your gone and your friend to dog-sit?
- Start your packing early and get lots of rest.
