If you’re looking for something to do to pull you away from your Chicago apartment the weekend of June 21, you won’t be disappointed. When it comes to tasty Chicago events, Pizza Fest 2008 might top the list. Now in its second year, this culinary extravaganza features plenty of slices of the gooey stuff the Windy City is famous for.
When and Where – Sponsored by the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce, Pizza Fest runs from noon to 10 p.m. June 21-22 at the corner of Racine and Fullerton. The event features a number of famous Chicago pizza eateries and plenty of live entertainment. The entire celebration is designed to celebrate the city’s own distinct styles of pizza and its reputation for making some of the best in the world.
Expected Pizza Vendors – If you’ve been itching to try some of the city’s best pizza parlors, this is truly the place to be. The vendor lineup for this year’s event includes Pronto ‘Za, Caponies, Connie’s Pizza, Vinci and more. Plus, the styles of pizza that are on tap for the event should make any connoisseur’s mouth water. Be certain you will find deep dish, Neapolitan and stuffed crust ready and waiting. Just don’t plan on attending with a full stomach. You’ll be sorry if you do!
Contests – Beyond the scheduled vendors, pizza enthusiasts will also find a host of other eateries all vying to claim the title of making Chicago’s best slices. The competition, which will be judged by fans, celebrities and Chicago natives, will include three individual “best of” titles – one for each style of pizza. The judging for this contest is set to take place at 3 p.m. June 21. There’s also a pizza eating contest for those who think they can put away the most pizza. Sign up for the contest if you think you have what it takes to win the $250 grand prize.
Entertainment – Even if pizza isn’t your thing, Pizza Fest is worth a trip just for the live entertainment. Concerts are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday starting at noon and running throughout the day. Saturday features such acts as Jazz Conspiracy, Canasta and Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers. Sunday’s performers include Hello Dave and The Gufs.
Parking – Getting to Pizza Fest 2008 by car should be a snap, but plan on parking being a little hairy. To avoid hassles, it’s best to pay the $5 fee to park at DePaul University. The parking garage can be found off Fullerton on Clifton.
When it comes to tasty creations, the city of Chicago is almost synonymous with pizza. If your mouth waters at the thought, Pizza Fest 2008 is the place to be this month.
